OVERVIEW

Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital

The earlier stages of development of this district hospital may be traced to its inception as Hatkhola Dispensary a long time back in 1854. Passing through as the Barasat Cottage Hospital run by the local municipal authority in 1908 it started running with 15 indoor beds in 1930. Ultimately it was taken over by the Government in 1945 and shifted to its present location in 1961. This hospital now offers services in over 26 specialties, providing a variety of healthcare services, including a five-bedded dialysis unit and a well-equipped blood bank with component separation facilities. It performs around 2,200 diagnostic tests daily, offering round-the-clock laboratory services. As a government hospital, it implements all relevant government healthcare programs, focusing on treating poor patients and offering comprehensive care under these schemes
